Revert contact to lead and restore data
Sometimes a converted client turns out not to be a contact after all: the deal fell through, the role is incorrect, or you want the lead to go through your pipeline again. With revert to lead you turn an existing contact back into a lead — and then immediately update the most important fields.
When to use this
Section titled “When to use this”- A buyer or seller was converted too early and should be back in Leads
- You want to reset the lead status (e.g., Contacted instead of New)
- Property details or property type are no longer correct after reverting
- There were linked deals and you first want to check what happens to those links
What you need to know before starting
Section titled “What you need to know before starting”Step by step
Section titled “Step by step”-
Check linked deals
Open the contact you want to revert.
- Go to the Deals tab on the contact detail page.
- Check if there are any active deals linked to this contact.
- If there are deals: know that when reverting, the contact will be automatically removed from those deals. First resolve the deal content-wise or manually remove the contact from the deal if your process requires it.
Open the contact and click the **Deals** tab (visible here next to Activities). When reverting, the contact is automatically unlinked from all deals. -
Revert the contact to lead
- Click Edit in the top right to open the editing panel.
- Scroll down. At the bottom: Click + here + to revert to lead (click on here).
- Confirm the “Are you sure?” dialog with Yes (or cancel with No).
- The panel closes; you are redirected to the lead detail page.
-
Restore the lead status
After reverting, the status is set to New, even if you had already been in contact.
- Open the lead (via Leads in the sidebar or via the redirect after reverting).
- Click Edit or adjust the status via the progress bar.
- Set Lead status to the correct value — for example Contacted if contact has already been made.
- Click Update to save.
Restore Lead status manually via **Edit** or the progress bar. After revert it defaults to **New**. -
Check and update property details
Directly check whether Property Details are still correct (property type, bedrooms, price range, location — depending on buyer or seller).
- Open Edit on the lead.
- Scroll to the Property Details section.
- Fill in missing or incorrect fields (e.g., Type).
- Save with Update.
Update property details immediately — type, price range, and location may be empty or changed. -
Final check
- Compare the lead data with what you had from the contact (name, email, phone, status, property details).
- Verify that the lead is no longer under Contacts but is under Leads.
- Finalize once everything is correct.
Verify the person is back under **Leads** (not Contacts) and the data is correct.
Quick check sequence
Section titled “Quick check sequence”Use this fixed sequence to avoid mistakes:
